"KOMA" is a genuine Korean word and it has several meanings. One is "Thank you" and another

meaning is derived from an old Korean legend of Tan-gun, which is where KOMABIOTECH obtain

its name.

A Tan-gun legend exists in connection with the founding of the ancient Choson dynasty of Korea.

According to the myth, a celestial being known as Hwanung, came down upon the mortal world

to establish a nation. Hwanung descended upon Mt. Paektu with 3000 subordinates.

The immortal Hwanung founded a divine city and began ruling the world.

One day, a tiger and a bear from the mountains came to Hwanung and begged him to transform

them into human beings. In response to their wishes, Hwanung gave them a bundle of mugwort

and twenty pieces of garlic. He commanded the tiger and the bear to eat them and avoid the

sunlight for up to one hundred days, if their wishes were to be granted. The bear followed the

instructions of Hwanung patiently and diligently to become a beautiful woman in 37 days.

However, the tiger was impatient and could not endure the trial and failed to become a human

being. Hwanung sympathized with the bear that had transformed into a beautiful woman for her

patience, perseverance, and pure heart. Hwanung married the beautiful woman and had a son

named Tan-gun, who would become the founding ancestor of the Korean people. Tan-gun would

later unite the scattered Tungusic tribes into a nation known as the Kingdom of Ancient Choson

and establish his capital at Asadal (now Pyongyang in North Korea) in 2333 B.C.

Although the Tan-gun legend is only a myth, it not only contains many significant historical facts

of the 5000-year long Korean history, but it demonstrates the pride of the Korean nation for its

ideals of a unified nation, long history and ancient culture. The legend of Tan-gun has been

passed down from one generation to the next for thousands of years and has become the source

of spiritual reawakening and solace in times of national crisis.

We at KOMABIOTECH strive to do business with our customers and partners with the same

principles as the legend of Tan-gun, with sincerity, perseverance, and a pure heart. We hope

that you, as our partner or customer, will enjoy our relationship and business so that

KOMABIOTECH may endure the everlasting test of time.
